Stomach and intestine check-up

Virtual colonoscopy
A virtual colonoscopy provides an explicit look at the intestine's interior, without having to insert instruments into the colon. As a virtual colonoscopy is a very mild procedure for the patient in comparison to a conventional enteroscopy, it is playing more and more a very important role in the prevention of colon cancer. The examination is performed with the aid of state-of-the-art multislice computed tomography, working with multislice imaging technology and rapid imaging sequences. The image data is fed into a computer and assembled into a virtual, three-dimensional image. With this data, we can detect if there are colon polyps, a tumor, or other pathological changes. In addition, during the examination it is possible to detect pathological changes in all of the other stomach organs, as well as in the spinal cord, and it is possible to see if the aortas are dilated.

Virtual gastroscopy
The stomach is examined for pathological changes with the aid of an ultrarapid, low radiation multislice computed tomography instead of having the patient swallow a tube. At the conclusion of the procedure, the sectional images created by the CT are transformed by a very complex computer program into three-dimensional color images. The interpretation of these images forms the foundation for the diagnosis. A virtual gastroscopy offers a multitude of diagnostic possibilities, for instance, as a preventive examination for the early detection of cancer; to clarify stomach ailments (e.g., resulting from an inflammation of the gastric mucous membrane or a stomach ulcer); or as a control examination after operations.
