Preventive care against osteoporosis

Especially for women in menopause, the density of human bones decreases rapidly. There is a definite increase in the risk of bone fractures, curvature of the spinal cord, and pain. The individual risk for a patient of contracting osteoporosis should be evaluated by measuring the density of the bones, especially when there are additional risk factors such as, e.g., hereditary tendencies; the patient smokes or is underweight; or the patient is undergoing a long-term cortisone therapy. When the levels are low, there is a lot that can be done to minimize this risk.
